Top Hiking Trails Near Miami, AZ:

  • Kellner Canyon Trail
    The Kellner Canyon Trail #242 is one of a group of four main trails climbing the north slope of the Pinal Mountain Range. The elevation and north-facing slopes combine to create an alpine microenvironment and enjoyable hike. Stands of Aspen trees near the top may be the closest to the Phoenix area to be found. Kellner Canyon Trail, like the others in the area, disguises a real workout with relaxing beauty. All of the trails generally start at the same 4500′ elevation trailhead and finish near the top of the mountain at over 7500′. Of the four main trails, this one does top out a little further west than the others on FR651 at only about 7200′. Pinal Montain trails are also popular with mountain bikers.   • Icehouse Trail 198
    Another trail that ascends the north slope of the Pinals; dotted with old mine shafts, the elevation and north facing slopes combine for a memorable hike. If you can catch this area during the last week of October when the leaves are turning, the maple and aspen foliage can be breathtaking.   • Sixshooter Trail 197
    When the creek flows, small waterfalls can be seen along the trail at several locations. The trail is a continual climb through several life zones showing changes in vegetation. The trail offers panoramic views of Miami, Globe and the surrounding area. This is one of the most popular trails in the Pinals.   • Tollroad Trail 200
    Starting in the high desert, this trail terminates in the tall pines of upper Pinal Creek canyon. The Toll Road Trail follows the route of an 1883 toll road that was built to provide access to the Pioneer Mining District on the south side of the Pinals. With three other trails connecting to it, the Toll Road Trail provides opportunities for loop hikes as well.   • Ferndell Trail 204
    This short connector trail runs between the Sixshooter Trail #197 and the Squaw Spring Trail #196 near the top of 7848 foot Pinal Peak, in the Pinal Mountains near Globe. This trail doesn’t appear to see much traffic, but it is maintained and relatively easy to follow. Although short, it is a great trail for fall color when the aspen and maple trees turn during the last week or two of October and sometimes lasting into early November.

  • The Flatiron via Siphon Draw Trail
    Located in the Tonto National Forest, The Flatiron via Siphon Draw Trail is a challenging yet rewarding 5.5-mile out-and-back hike. This trail offers breathtaking views of the Superstition Mountains and surrounding desert landscape. As you ascend the rugged path, you’ll experience a variety of terrains, from rocky sections to steep climbs. The view from the top is well worth the effort, providing panoramic vistas that stretch for miles.
  • Picketpost Mountain Trail
    About a 40-minute drive from Miami, the Picketpost Mountain Trail is another challenging hike that rewards with stunning views. This 4.4-mile out-and-back trail features steep climbs and rocky sections but offers breathtaking scenery and a sense of adventure. At the summit, enjoy sweeping views of the surrounding wilderness and valleys.
  • Boyce Thompson Arboretum State Park Trails
    Just 30 minutes from Miami, the Boyce Thompson Arboretum offers several easy to moderate trails that wind through a beautiful botanical garden filled with desert plants, wildlife, and scenic views.
